Icon Beach Getaway

A house that explores the aesthetics of a beach house embracing its environment. The Icon Getaway Beach House looked at what makes a “Beach House”. Materials and forms were studied to create a cottage house with a contemporary interpretation of coastal architecture.

The private spaces (three en-suite bedrooms) are arranged in a manner to frame the living spaces. This in-turn brought about an organic flow within the given spaces.
The spatial arrangement also maximizes the views to the beach and Lake Malawi from all the rooms and living spaces. This arrangement also took into consideration privacy within the rooms as the client intended to use the cottage as a family get-away and also host friends simultaneously.

Natural and readily available materials, such as stone, timber, brick and concrete are emphasized. This is done to express the strong connection to the beach house’s natural surroundings whilst maintaining a simple and attainable design.
